The average wedding will have 169 people in attendance.* Where your wedding numbers will fall is yet to be determined, but having an estimate of expected guests will play a major role in your budgeting and planning. Once you know who will be invited, you can assign special roles to guests you would like to honor. So, get out your pen and paper or start an excel spreadsheet! You have a party to plan!

GUESTS
Most people in attendance will fall in to the wedding guest category. On average 20-25% of the guests you invite will not be able to attend your event. This list is usually a three-part contribution, the bride’s family list, the groom’s family list guests, and the bride and groom’s personal list.
WEDDING PARTY
Your wedding party is comprised of your closest family and/or friends. They will stand with you, sit at the head table, and play a major role in your day! The wedding party is made up of the following people:
BRIDE’S SIDE
- Maid and/or Matron of Honor
- Bridesmaids
- Junior Bridesmaids
- Flower Girls
GROOM’S SIDE
- Bestman
- Groomsmen
- Junior Groomsmen
- Ring Bearers
CEREMONY ATTENDANTS
Most of the major roles that need to be filled will take place during your marriage ceremony. Think about and consider who is best fit for the following:
Ushers
Readers
Greeters
Program Passers
Sponsors or Witnesses
Candle Lighters
Presenters
The only roles that absolutely need to be filled to have a wedding are the roles of bride and groom. The rest is completely subjective, you may opt to fill all of these roles, or none of them! Don’t feel bound by tradition or what you think you should do, make your wedding your own. Surround yourself with those you love to celebrate the first day of your married life!
